on Elysian Fields
sun scorching across the sky
heroes roam the wall
brownstones and spaldeens
soda pops and Dodger blue
hydrants drench the field
late summer night—
baseball rolls across the mind
hope for hit not out
race to the bag—
umpire makes the wrong call
perfection denied
7th inning stretch
take me out to the ball game
fans stand up to sing
twenty-seven down
twenty-eight a Bip double
Pedro leaves the mound
approaches the plate
hands slap and point to the sky
dust ascends to God
Flatbush to Bedstuy
Bensonhurst out to Bushwick
Dem Bums ruled the Burgh
